Resurgent Medvedev Wins First Title in 882 Days
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Medvedev won his first title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents the player's initial title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.
Victory also indicates he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.
The player's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.
Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.
Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, gained dominance to create a final set.
He defended four early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
